In the world of combat sports, promoters and fighters have always had a contentious relationship. The promoter wants to make money off the fighters while nickel and dimming them for everything they’ve got. It’s been this way for decades now. More so in the world of MMA but boxing has had its moments as well. But if there is a silver lining on the horizon, it is H.E. Turki Alalshikh and his will to change the face of modern combat sports. But who exactly is H.E. Turki Alalshikh? Well, we’re here to find out.

Who is H.E. Turki Alalshikh?

 

H.E. Turki Alalshikh is a prominent Saudi Arabian government official and businessman. He has held various significant positions in Saudi Arabia, including Chairman of the General Sports Authority, a role in which he played a pivotal role in promoting sports and entertainment in the kingdom. H.E. Turki Alalshikh has also been involved in business ventures, particularly in the sports and entertainment sectors. His influence extends beyond Saudi Arabia due to his involvement in international sporting events and initiatives aimed at fostering cultural exchange through sports. He’s essentially the right arm of the Saudi royal family and has their blessing to turn Saudi Arabia into the premier combat sports destination on the planet.

H.E. Turki Alalshikh has been involved in transforming the landscape of boxing in Saudi Arabia through his efforts to promote the sport and host major boxing events in the kingdom. Under his leadership as the Chairman of the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia, he has played a key role in organising high-profile boxing matches, including the historic heavyweight championship fight between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr. in December 2019, which took place in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. We also got Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou as well as Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou. If these aren’t big fights then we don’t know what can be classified as that.

Al-Sheikh’s initiatives have helped bring international attention to Saudi Arabia as a destination for major sporting events, including boxing. By investing in infrastructure, promoting sports tourism, and fostering partnerships with international sports organisations and promoters, he has contributed to positioning Saudi Arabia as a significant player in the global sports industry, particularly in boxing.

 

Additionally, H.E. Turki Alalshikh’s support for boxing has extended to grassroots development programs and initiatives aimed at nurturing local talent and encouraging participation in the sport at all levels. Through these efforts, he is not only changing the perception of Saudi Arabia as a sports destination but also contributing to the growth and development of boxing within the kingdom and beyond.

We have an incredible boxing bout coming up with Tyson Fury set to take on the dangerous Oleksandr Usyk in May while Terence Crawford will face WBA light-middleweight world champion Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles on August 3. If anything, H.E. Turki Alalshikh is taking the fight to the US!

Even in the world of MMA, H.E. Turki bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Sheikh isn’t resting on his laurels as the Saudis basically forced the UFC to bring a better fight card to the country. Against these kinds of odds, the UFC relented and we’ve now got a banger in Robert Whittaker vs Khamzat Chimaev for the Saudi card.

If there is one thing to be said about H.E. Turki Alalshikh, it is that the man is a fan, first and foremost. From his interviews, you can tell that he cares and reveres the sport of boxing. The respect that he gives to fighters and their skills is very evident from the way he talks about them.

 

If this is the man to save boxing, then as far as we’re concerned, the future is more than just bright. It’s a supernova.
